project #2- the confusing assignment
i chose the word vision because it is something most of us have but take for granted. Its also a word that everyone understands as being abstract, vision doesn't always mean seeing whats in front of you as much as what you choose to look at. the image, a picture of three young boys from iraq titled "war games" depicts the to elder boys holding guns to the youngest boys head. the image immediately grabbed my attention for the obvious reasons, why would they do this? why would they have guns in the first place, and finally why would someone be taking a photograph. The more i looked at it the picture and thought about the possible contexts behind it i realized that the boys might just be playing but it might just be real as well the point is i've never really taken the time to look into that culture to gain the knowledge necessary to decide, and i'd be willing to bet the majority of people have not either. The mixing of the two starting points, the word vision and the image of the boys lead me to an eye exam like composition fitting the word vision in amongst the scrambled letters and skewed images of the boys i made the image harder to realize because i want people to take a closer look in this way even my epic failure is getting the point across in some fashion..despite the failed outcome the knowledge gained during the process was well worth it!
